Increasing traffic to your blog

Many thanks to Garth Spiers for this reference. Garth is a vital participant in our Tuesday night blogging group and a wonderful man (and management consultant/coach) besides.

I’m not sure about this approach to blogging, and perhaps the name says it all.

Makes me think about the movement of evil substances or innocent victims around the world, or is that just me?

But there are some useful tips and tricks that Yaro Starak has to offer, some of which will be covered in our beginners course but others will be more relevant to advanced bloggers.

Let’s have some discussion about it. My feeling is there will be as much here about what not to do as what we could be doing with our Authentic Blogging practice.

I guess it’s a case of how you want to live your life and make a living, and what’s authentic for you.

If it smells like another “Get Rich Quick” scheme, then it probably is. Our approach with Authentic Blogging is not such an egocentric one, but why throw the baby out with the bathwater. Have a look for yourself.

There are a lot of similar kinds of things out there, and they all focus on getting lots of readers. That can be a measure of success of your blog, and would be key if you were trying to make be a professional blogger: more readers -> more advertising clicks -> more $$ in your pocket.

You can do this, and if it is only about the money, you do something like this:

1. work out thing that people search for most on google and that has the highest value per click advertisements.
2. write about that in your blog.

Candidates are topics like Paris Hilton, Britney, etc. and common medical conditions, drugs, anything you see in spam email, and (of course) making money from blogging.

If you are blogging for a business, you need to consider the quality of your readers.. Are the right people finding you? Are they going on to buy something from you? And those, for me, are a lot more about you authentically saying who you are than going for a lot of readers.

Maybe Yaro Starak will pop up here and comment as well?

Thanks Gra. That is really useful and gets me thinking about it all even more. This all again makes me question, how do you want to live your life? How much time do you want to spend on computers, talking to other people on computers.

If the answer is.. whatever it takes, then go for it and be a Blog TrafficKing. But it will take time and effort. There are no magic buttons as such. Would you agree Gra?

just wondering if we can plug in a feature to let you know when someone adds a comment to a discussion you are engaged in…. hmm? Gra’s domain again…? Tricky? a wordpress upgrade I guess.

Lots of good thoughts you guys.
I’ve looked a bit more into Yaro Stark. He seems to be authentic (and he’s got a cute pic of himself - that always helps - and he’s another Ozzy) Doesn’t make huge sums but enough. Have alook at http://www.blogmastermind.com/
What he can’t give is the great one-on-one experience we’re all getting from you two and the interaction between us all. What I’m starting to realise from what you’ve been saying is write what you love and the money will come - probably in mysterious ways.
